Be a Gentleman On A Date

One of the most important things I’ve noticed about men when dating is that they forget how to be a gentleman.  Since we are now in this technology age of the internet, social medial, and apps, we sometimes forget that being a gentleman and being romantic matters.  I was recently at a restaurant with my soon having lunch outside.  Next to the restaurant I was sitting at was an office building, and I noticed a young woman walking up to the door carrying a medium sized boxed.  Right at the time she reached the door, a male walked out of the same door she was going to enter.

I’m sure he noticed her with the box, but he proceeded through the door first and did not bother to hold the door open for her and she was forced to prop the box with her knee and open it herself. Now I understand they were not on a date, bu the premise is the same, being a gentleman and being polite is still key.

It got me thinking about other ways to show you are a gentleman when on a date:

Do your best to be on time.

No one wants to wait around for someone.  Lateness is one of my biggest pet peeves.  If you have agreed to meet for the date at specific time, make sure to arrive about 5-10 minutes early.  This will show the person that you care about their time.

Open doors for your date.

This is something should be taught at a very young age.  This includes opening the car door for a woman.

Try to keep your date as planned

If you need to re-schedule the date, be sure to give the person as much notice as possible so that they can make other plan’s if necessary.

When ordering food, allow the woman to go first.

This just speaks to proper manners as well. There once was a time when the man would order for the woman, but unless your date has cleared you to do this for her, it is always better to allow the woman to order first.

Put your cell phone away when on the date

With the exception of an emergency, it’s always a good idea to put your phone away when on your date. It can be rude to text and check social media while enjoying the company of someone.

All of these tips should be common knowledge and common sense.  But as some would say, common sense is sometimes not too common.  You can definitely stand out in the crowd by remembering these simple tips.
